Most Ignorant Article of the Day (So Far)

I came across this gem of an “article” this evening. I don’t know what this guy has been doing the past few years, or where he has been, but let me sum up the article with one of his points:

4. When Reggie drives off in his Escalade, emblematic of MVP in the Super Bowl, while Houston improves to 8-8 with their fine young defensive end, there may be regret in the Texan offices.

Superbowl? Seriously? I don’t see how anyone, and I mean ANYONE, can think that Reggie “I Walk On Water” Bush is the final piece to the Saints Superbowl run. No doubt, Bush is a fantastic player, but there is a reason that most scouts had the top two picks in this years draft ranked 1 and 1a. But I guess that’s why this clown is writing for a newspaper, and not roaming the sidelines or sitting behind a desk in some front office.

Leinart’s Bad Luck?

Don’t let all the camera shots and pity plays for Matt Leinart fool you. He has “fallen” into a goldmine. Yeah, he would have been the #1 overall pick last year had he come out, and this year he is the 10th. But look what he has “settled” for. A S-T-U-D running back behind him in Edgerrin James. Two, count ’em TWO, great wide receivers in Fitzgerald and Boldin. And a players coach in Dennis Green. Not to mention, the weather and general climate aren’t that far from what he was used to in SoCal. Toss in a new stadium, and you have the recipe for success. Matt can probably count his blessings a few years from now that he has fallen to this position. The Cardinals are being rebuilt and retooled for WINNING, and they have the quarterback who can lead them there now. While I got a little tired of hearing “USC, USC, USC” all season, I do like Leinart, and think he has heart. I’ll be pulling for him.

Sportsunderground’s NFL Draft Central

Just because I’m going to be sitting here watching the draft all day, I figured I would join the rest of the sports world and have a draft tracker going on. You bring the chips!

Super Mario!!

PLEASE EXCUSE MY RED SHADED GLASSES FOR A MINUTE:

Super MarioI asked my wife tonight if she now understood why I lost my mind screaming at the top of my lungs a few years ago as Mario Williams, the then high school prospect, pulled out an NC State hat and placed it on his head, announcing his decision to join the Wolfpack family on Countdown to Signing Day. I absolutely cannot believe it. I have been looking forward to this draft for several weeks now, as a both a football fan and a Wolfpack fan. With 2 potential first round picks, and more surely to follow in the later rounds, it is going to be a good day. But never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that Mario would be picked #1. I was part of the crowd that believed he was being used as leverage to get Bush to come down on the asking price. Even after they specifically said, “we aren’t using him as a bargaining chip”, I still didn’t believe it. So tonight, my buddy Stonecoldjz called me and broke the news. I’m on cloud nine! Sounds a little funny that I am so excited about having a #1 draft pick from NC State, but I love my Pack, so that’s just the way it is. I also know that Mario is a first class guy, very respectful young man (unless you’re an opposing QB). He deserves everything he gets and we are proud of him.

Legal In Canada?

Reports are that the Toronto Argonauts are interested in Ricky Williams and have placed him on their negotiations list. The CFL has a history of bringing in players with off the field troubles and are not currently able or available to play in the NFL. Recent examples of these types of players include Andre Rison (who was one of my favorite players growing up, but that’s neither here nor there) and Lawrence Philips. One performed well, and the other didn’t. Wanna guess which one? With a minimum base salary of $39,000, it is speculated that Williams could command anywhere from $70-150,000. Still a good salary for someone like me, but a far cry from an NFL paycheck. Question is, will he have to find a new bag man?

More Early Entrants

Just a quick little post to add to the latest names of college basketball players who have decided to test the waters of the NBA and declare for the draft. All players who decide NOT to sign with an agent have until June 18th to withdraw and return to school. This is a good opportunity for players who may or may not be ready to get a good evaluation from NBA scouts. Then, they can choose to return to school and have a good idea what they need to work on in hopes of improving their draft status. Declaring for the draft in the last few days:

USC Dynasty Could Come Crashing Down

Just a few months ago, USC was the darling of the college football world. The players were shining examples of theCarroll all-american kid. Personable. Unbeatable. Then they were beaten. Now, they may lose more than on the field. The recent allegations surrounding Reggie Bush and Mark Sanchez, coupled with some other incidents coming to light, make it possible to bring “Glory U” back to earth. Dennis Dodd’s article gets into the nitty gritty and shines a light on some things the Trojans would rather stay in the dark

Four months ago, Southern California was chasing an unprecedented third straight national championship. Who knew that a Vince Young touchdown scramble with 19 seconds left would set off — symbolically at least — a ticking time bomb?

Mandel On College Football Factories for 2006

Obviously, the number one on the list is USC, followed closely by Ohio State and Florida State. But I thought I would link to the rest of the article to make sure you didn’t miss it. I’m getting really excited about the draft this weekend, and these kind of articles are what are getting me prepped for it.

Stewart Mandel: What does it say about the Wolfpack’s offense that despite boasting a defense that produced the top two defensive ends in this draft — including potential No. 1 pick Williams — and as many as six overall draftees, N.C. State went just 12-11 the past two seasons.
