Quick Hits: April 26th, 2006

  • George Mason basketball head coach Jim Laranga received a contract extension through the 2011-2012 season. I guess a nice run in the tourney and a Final Four appearance IS a good thing.
  • Just after getting the good news that Brett Favre was coming back for one more season, the Green Bay Packers signed Charles Woodson to a 7 year, $52 million deal. The former Pro-Bowler Woodson provides a much needed boost in the secondary for the Packers.
  • USC backup QB Mark Sanchez was arrested for sexually assaulting a female student.
  • Sources in the NBA have said that Steve Nash is going to win the NBA MVP for the 2nd straight year, edging out Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.
  • Barry Bonds hits no. 711 in pinch hitting role, but can’t get the win.
  • Kenyon Martin pouted on Tuesday night, refused to go back in the game, and as a result, was suspended for the next 2 games by head coach George Karl for conduct detrimental to the team. Give him a pacifier and let him sit.
  • Vikings cut Onterrio Smith. The 25 year old was suspended for the entire 2005 season for violating the league drug policy.
