ACC College Football Championship Wrap Up

Welcome to a world where nobody hates or even better is not scared of the Duke Blue Devils because no one cares.

The ACC is best known for its basketball dominance, but the arrival of Miami, Boston College and Virginia Tech has done wonders for the conference’s brand of football.

Miami Hurricanes (9-3 SU, 4-8 ATS, UNDER 7-5) The ‘Canes squandered a talented squad last year when the offensive line evolved into wimps after allowing 36 sacks and making things tough for their young quarterback Kyle Wright. This is the reason it’s no biggie that only center Anthony Wollschlager is returning from the 2005 line. There are several experienced players waiting in the wings to fill those holes as there always seems to be at THE U. If they succeed, Miami could be looking at a national title. The team is that good at every other position as long as the offensivel line doesn’t fall on their face. An ACC title is even more likely and it should be very interesting to see how this plays out.

Florida State Seminoles (8-5 SU, 6-6 ATS, OVER 8-4) While Miami appears to be the class of the Coastal Division, the ‘Noles are poised to take the Atlantic Division. It would be a wonderful rematch should they meet for the title at the end of the year. FSU’s offensive line was just like Miami’s last year, but their poor performance was mostly due to injuries. Yet the ‘Noles still managed to upset Va Tech to win the ACC for the stunning 12th time in 14 years. Now the offensive line starters are back and look to be much more healthy. It’s on defense where the Seminoles have to reload this season after losing so many players to the NFL draft. Coach Bobby Bowden never fails in the recruiting department so do not doubt they have some studs ready to step up this year.

Virginia Tech Hokies (11-2 SU, 10-3 ATS, OVER 7-6) You can sense the air coming out of the Hokies for the first time in what seems like forever. They know they blew a big chance last year by losing a BCS bowl berth to the Seminoles and instead playing in the Gator Bowl against the Louisville Cardinals. That’s where quarterback Marcus Vick went shell on the chest of a Louisville defender with his cleats. That earned Vick a quick exit to the NFL so he can sit on the bench if he even makes the Miami Dolphins squad. The Hokies need to hope their top-ranked defense can compensate for all the questions on offense. It will take a huge fall from the Florida heavyweights to get Va Tech back in title contention.

Clemson Tigers (8-4 SU, 8-4 ATS, UNDER 7-5) This team will be overlooked by casual ACC observers along with anyone outside of the ACC. Even after the loss of senior quarterback Charlie Whitehurst there just aren’t any major holes on this team. Coach Tommy Bowden has also beaten his father’s Seminoles twice in three years. If it can happen again this year then the Tigers could squeak into the ACC title game.

The ACC is also stocked with other possible champinship candidates with Boston College, Georgia Tech and even Maryland. The Eagles more than likely can’t do it after losing several star defenders and drawing a tough schedule and Georgia Tech will need a huge year from Reggie Ball. Maryland will need a wing, a prayer and some magic potion and should look more towards just going to a bowl game. The remaining clubs are North Carolina State, Virginia, North Carolina, Wake Forest and those sorry Dukies who don’t have a snowball’s chance in He$$.

College Football Season is Here

The time has finally arrived and I am absolutely ecstatic. Three days of the week (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) just got a lot better and in one more week you can toss in Sunday and Monday due to the NFL. I am so happy not only because of watching each of the games televised, but also because it’s NCAA football betting season. I plan on having a monster year and let’s get things kicked off on a good start tonight. Two televised games on ESPN and ESPN2 and I have posted my picks below. Let’s get it on!!!

Boston College covers -11.5 over Central Michigan

South Carolina covers -6.5 over Mississippi State

Somebody Give Oklahoma a Cookie

I gotta tell ya, nothing gets by that steel trap of a mind out in Oklahoma. It seems as though they have decided to ban student athletes from working at the dealership that cost them two players for the upcoming season, including their starting QB Rhett Bomar. My question is, why did it take this long?! Surely the investigation into how a college kid made $18k working 5 hours a week this summer couldn’t have dragged on this long. But, they can now announce to the world and shout from the rooftops that they are TOUGH ON CRIME!…oh yeah, TOUGH ON RECRUITING VIOLATIONS! Everyone and their cousin knows that there is more going on there, or they would have shoved this under the rug. The very fact that they were willing to give up their #2 guy to keep from having an investigation from the NCAA is very telling.

Fantasy Football Time

I had my draft on Sunday and it was an absolute blast. I quickly found out that I would be the #1 pick which in all reality I wasn’t too pleased with, but what do you do. The time frame between picks and then having to pick 2 in a row with the serpentine method can make things quite difficult. Overall I am very pleased with my team, but I think most people are before the season starts. Below is my full roster and down the road I will update you on who will be my week one starters. Hail Fantasy Football and Cheers to the NFL. Sundays are about to get a lot better!

Bledsoe vs Romo

Drew BledsoeIs it just me or do the Cowboys have the most media frenzy around them so far this year? We all knew the TO and Parcells saga would be a daily dose of news, but recently it has turned to Drew Bledsoe and Tony Romo. The drama really gained steam when Romo played the entire first preseason game and did extremely well. Shouldn’t he do well though when he is playing against a lot of guys who will never play a real NFL game? Anyway, many media outlets are trying to say there could be a quarterback controversy and Parcells is starting to lean towards Romo as the starter.  I think the hype fired up Drew Bledsoe because last night he made the New Orleans Saints defense look like Swiss cheese. Bledsoe completed 12 of 16 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns to effectively for now stop the Romo fever. Let’s face it, Bledsoe is a Parcells type player and has been with him through many seasons. The starting job for the Cowboys is Drew’s until his concrete feet finally do him in.

Vikings Headaches Begin Again

Koren Robinson

It’s still preseason and there is already turmoil in Vikings camp. Not only big trouble for Minnesota, but even bigger trouble for Koren Robinson. K-Rob was arrested last night on suspicion of DUI when clocked at a rate of 100 mph in a 55 mph zone last night. Robinson didn’t stop immediately due to the fact he was very close to missing his 11pm curfew at Vikings camp. There is still a lot to be determined, but with all the previous drinking issues Robinson has had this could bring the worst trouble yet. He could not only be kicked out of Minnesota, but he could miss a whole year in the NFL. Koren Robinson could also be sent to jail for a year due to a previous DUI when he was with the Seattle Seahawks. This has me personally disappointed me in so many ways because just last winter things looked so bright for Koren and he signed a new deal worth a guaranteed $5.5 million. Only time will tell, but this could be the end of a real talent!

Hold Out is Finished for Leinart

Matt Leinart
Matt Leinart was the last of 255 drafted prospects to agree to terms after he signed his deal with the Arizona Cardinals. Leinart has missed the last two weeks of training camp because of the hold out. Leinart who was recently ripped to pieces by head coach Denny Green for his absense could make up to $51 million if he hits all the different incentive goals within his contract. The bitterness between the two sides will quickly fade once Leinart is throwing touchdowns for Arizona. Let’s face it, Kurt Warner cannot make it through this season without being hurt and then it will be Leinart’s team.

$12 Million Dollars Richer – Jamie Gold

WSOP 2006
The 2006 WSOP Main Event is over and a former Hollywood talent agent is now a very very very rich man. Jamie Gold pretty much ran away with the tournament especially at the final table yesterday. I find it quite odd that earlier in the week there was an article at ESPN that he was contemplating in one way or another trying to throw the tournament so he wouldn’t have the glitz and glamour of being the WSOP champion. Was this in all reality the biggest poker bluff ever?

Clarett will be in the clink for a long time!

Maurice Clarett

Maurice Clarett’s bond has been set at $FIVE MILLION dollars after his most recent escapades with the law. I’m sure each of you have heard the details of the police chase only to find Maurice Clarett with a bullet proof vest, three loaded guns, a hatchet, a childrens CD in the receiver, and some Vodka to boot in his ride. All this was done hours before he was supposed to appear in court for a previous charge of robbery on New Year’s Eve. I am certain Clarett was either out to get people after him for money he owed them or he wanted to do something so drastic he could be put in jail to ensure he can be safe. Sad…so sad for this former Ohio State running back!

SportsUnderground.com’s Dumb A$$ of the Week Award

Sportsunderground.com's Dumb A$$ of the Week Award
Is there any question at all about who should receive the award this week? It is none other than Floyd “My testerone is high due to alcohol consumption” Landis. I really wanted to believe this guy because of how impressed I was with his performance in the Tour De France, but when he blamed the failed test on alcohol I knew he was in trouble.  The second test failed this past Saturday and he has now been fired from Team Phonak, put on probation and will no longer be recognized as the winner of the most prestigious event in cycling.  WAY TO GO FLOYD!
