Madden Football Curse Strikes Again

Madden 2007People reference the supposed curse all the time and oddly enough it strikes again. Reigning MVP Shaun Alexander who graces the 2007 Madden cover broke a bone in his foot this past Sunday and is more than likely out 4-6 weeks. This will be a huge blow to the Seahawks success in upcoming games and will he fully recover in time for a the important stretch run to the playoffs?

In respect to the Madden curse review the stars who were the faces of previous Madden games and what happened to them during that season.

Donovan McNabb ’06 – sports hernia in the first game of the year and then the TO debacle.

Ray Lewis ’05 – first season without INT and then missed last game with a broken wrist.

Michael Vick ’04 – fractured right fibula basically days after the game hit the stores.

Marshall Faulk ’03 – ankle injury and never once again broke the 1,000 yard mark for the season.

Daunte Culpepper ’02 – struggled to 4-7 record before a season ending knee injury.

Eddie George ’01 – career year, but key turnover led to playoff loss.

Barry Sanders 00′ – retired the week before training camp

Trevor Time

Trevor Hoffman set the all-time save record last night with his 479th save against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Hoffman of the San Diego Padres surpassed “The Fireballer” Lee Smith who is still one of my all-time favorite closers based on his days with the Cubs. Hoffman leads the National League in saves this year with 43 saves in 48 chances. Congrats Trevor and let’s shoot for 500 now.

Steve Smith Back in the Saddle?

Steve SmithSteve Smith of the Carolina Panthers practiced full speed yesterday for the first time in over twoo weeks. This is excellent news for all Panthers fans after the 0-2 start to the season basically because of the pathetic display of offense. Please “hamstring god” let Steve Smith play full speed this weekend. 🙂

Mad Respect for the Two SF Chronicle Reporters

Lance Williams and Mark Fainaru-Wada reporters for the San Francisco Chronicle have received a jail order for not providing the source who leaked them information on the Barry Bonds secret grand jury case. The two reporters have repeatedly stated they would rather be incarcerated then give up their source because if they did then for all intents and purposes they ruin their credibility and integrity. The two have some big jewels to stand up for what they believe even if it means jail time. I think it’s ridiculous these two are being persecuted in this manner for blowing open the BALCO case because it needed to be done. It has already improved the ethics of MLB and this trend should continue. Stand strong for what you believe in!

Clarett Sentenced

Maurice Clarett struck a plea bargain today for robbery and concealed weapon charges and was sentenced to 7 1/2 years with possible release after 3 1/2. Hopefully this will wake up a man who still has plenty of time left in his life to turn it around. I personally hope we don’t ever hear of him again in reference to the NFL or committing more crime. Peace out Maurice!

SportsUnderground.com’s Dumb A$$ of the Week Award

SportsUnderground.com
This week it goes to Chris Gamble of the Carolina Panthers. His bonehead idea to try a “Music City Miracle” lateral…err backwards pass…basically lost the game for the Carolina Panthers against the Minnesota Vikings and put them at 0-2 to start the season.

Chuck Amato in Trouble???

Chuck AmatoThere aren’t many coaches in NCAA football more on the hot seat right now than Chuck “The Chest” Amato of the NC State Wolfpack. I think this cartoon straight from the Raleigh News & Observer oozes how much hot water Amato is in these days in Raleigh.

The Lonesome Kicker

Adam Sandler sure hit the nail on the head with his parody on kickers in football. These poor souls rarely are appreciated and generally are the arm pits of any football team. The song was geared more towards field goal kickers, but aren’t punters really the same thing? I think the story out of the University of Nothern Colorado says HELL YES THEY ARE. A backup punter for the university attacked and stabbed the starter of the team. Mitch Cozad was arrested and on a charge of second-degree assault and freed Wednesday on a $30,000 bond after his attack on starter Rafael Mendoza. This story in many ways straight chills me to the bones.
