SportsUnderground.com’s Dumb A$$ of the Week Award

SportsUnderground.com's Dumbass of the Week Award

This week it must go to Arizona Cardinals coach Dennis Green. Denny allowed his team to completely fall apart this past Monday night against the undefeated Chicago Bears and blow a 23-3 lead in the third quarter. Green utlimately had his own meltdown when he went on a tirade in the press conference after the loss. Then he coached his team to a pathetic 22-9 loss against the previously winless Oakland Raiders who many thought could go through the whole season without a win. There is no doubt in my mind that if the 1-6 Cardinals lose this week to Green Bay then Denny will be fired as head coach during their bye week.

Dirtgate in Game 2 of World Series

Kenny Rogers

Did Kenny Rogers cheat is the question swirling the day after the Tigers won game two 3-1. I would say by the pictures and footage I have seen he most certainly did in the first inning of last night’s game and also in previous ones during the playoffs. The substance he had on his left hand is not “a big clump of dirt” that Rogers called it, but it does look like pine tar. St. Louis Cardinals batters said the ball was doing some crazy things in the first inning when the suspicion was sparked. The funny thing was the second inning the substance was gone and Rogers still mowed down Cardinal hitters. Shame on you Kenny, but you were at least smart enough to get rid of it in quick fashion. I can assure you this won’t be the last time we hear about this little ordeal.

Bunting Gets the Boot in Chapel Hill

John BuntingRumors have been swirling since the beginning of the season that John Bunting would be fired as head coach of the North Carolina Tarheels football team and Sunday it was official. The Tar Heels are 1-6 after an embarassing 23-0 loss this past Thursday on national television to the Virginia Cavaliers and their only win is against Division 1-AA Furman. Athletic Director Dick Baddour announced Sunday that Bunting would be released at the end of the year. Bunting has a record of 25-42 in his six years with the Tar Heels so the writing was definitely on the wall for this to take place.

Go Major League Baseball!

I’m not sure what was a bigger surprise when I learned MLB owners and players have agreed on a new five-year labor deal. Is it the fact I personally hadn’t heard any complaining from either side or the fact they agreed without waiting until the last hours before work stoppage like 2002? I really think you could debate either point and it would be hard to say your wrong, but the bottom line is MLB didn’t bicker about who is the richest for the first time in a long time. I commend the players and the owners today for taking the high road this time rather than the normal pathetic contest of who can piss farther.

Mike Tyson Never Ceases to Amaze Me

Mike TysonMike Tyson is stepping back in the ring after a long hiatus from boxing against someone with a detached retina. Needless to say “Iron Mike” isn’t exactly fighting quality boxers these days and is now stating he would be willing to fight a woman. Wait a second though Mike….Haven’t you been beating up women your entire career anyway?

“New Mexico” to Play in Miami this Weekend

Marcus VickMarcus Vick was recently added to the Dolphins roster after playing six weeks with the practice squad. “New Mexico” will more than likely be a reserve wide receiver and also return kicks for Miami. I am by no means a fan of Marcus, but he does have potential to be an Randle-El type player unless he decides to pull a gun again in a McDonald’s parking lot.

Tiki Barber’s Final Stand?

Tiki BarberThe word is that Tiki Barber will retire at the end of the year from the New York Giants. Tiki has played his entire career in New York and had close to 15,000 total yards and 62 touchdowns. I really respect a player going out on top rather than waiting until he withers away like some professional athletes. I think the one thing he might miss out on is the Hall of Fame. Read the article below for more on this topic.

SportsUnderground.com’s Dumb A$$ of the Week Award

SportsUnderground.com's Dumb A$$ of the Week Award

This week the award won’t be given to an individual because we have two teams in college football who decided they want the award way more than any individual. Saturday night the Miami Hurricanes and Florida International University broke into a melee for the record books. Thirteen players were ejected in total from the game and now at least 31 will be suspended for their next games after school officials were able to review the footage (link to video footage below). The penalties are not nearly strong enough for the actions these players took on the field. It was by far the worst display of behavior I have ever witnessed in a college football game. (Yes I am counting the South Carolina/Clemson brawl from a few years back)

On a side note Miami school officials are meeting today on the next steps for their football program. Could Larry Coker get fired even before the end of the season?

You will me missed Cory Lidle

Cory LidleCory Lidle crashed his plane yesterday into an apartment building on the East Side of Manhattan yesterday. Lidle was the pilot and his pilot instructor both passed away.  The well respected MLB pitcher played on seven MLB teams with the Yankees being his latest team. God bless his family during this tragic time.
