Marty Schottenheimer Staying Put

Marty Schottenheimer

After tons of speculation and some basically writing him off the Chargers and Team president Dean Spanos have confirmed Schottenheimer will return for the final year of his contract. Marty was also offered a $4.5 million extension, but turned down this offer. It would have been a farce to fire a coach who took his team to a 14-2 record in the regular season so I’m glad to see Spanos and General Manager A.J. Smith came to their senses.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN has announced the Chargers have changed their mind and fired Marty after all. I think this is a terrible move by Smith and Spanos given the timing of the decision and committing to him just a month ago. I am a huge fan of the Chargers and just wish Schottenheimer was given one last chance because he has done very well in San Diego. A.J.
