R.I.P. NFL Europa

NFL Europa

It seems like we hardly knew you (Oh wait, 99.6 % of the world’s population didn’t) even though you were around for 16 years.  In the first four years you were named the World League then NFL Europe and the final two years NFL Europa.  The whole purpose of the league was to be a talent development league for the NFL and to extend the brand nationally.  Throughout the years London, Barcelona, Scotland, Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin had teams, but the final season had only five teams from Germany and one from Amsterdam.

Michael Please Stop!

Charlotte Bobcats

You really need to stop selecting UNC players with your first round picks.  Brandan Wright isn’t strong enough to beat his way out of a wet paper bag and his jumper is on the same level as Bill Cartwright.  Then with your second round pick you take the human sloth Jared Dudley.  I realize there weren’t any other UNC players worth picking, but you had to stay in the ACC huh?  The Bobcats sure aren’t on the yellow brick road these days!

Kobe Happy With Draft Pick?

Kobe Bryant

Hell no!  I can’t imagine he is pleased with the Lakers taking a shot hungry point guard in Javaris Crittenton from Georgia Tech with their first round pick.  I actually think I heard Kobe whining from the east coast with the announcement of LA’s pick.

Sonic Boom

Seattle Sonics

The Seattle Sonics picked up all everything Kevin Durant with their second pick, but that was just the beginning of their 2007 draft.  Ray Allen and the Sonics #35 pick was traded for the #5 pick Jeff Green of Georgetown along with Delonte West and Wally Szcerbiak.  The Sonics made out like bandits on this deal and have brought a new found fever to a dying organization.  Well done Seattle!

NBA Draft 2007

NBA Draft 2007

The first pick of the NBA Draft of 2007 is Greg Oden.  This is more chalk than taking all the number one seeds in the first round of the NCAA Basketball Tourney.  Kevin Durant could end up being a better player, but Portland is taking Oden and that’s the bottom line because StonecoldJZ said so!

ESPN Salutes Virginia Tech

ESPN College GameDay

The kickoff to ESPN College Football GameDay will be on September 1st in Blacksburg, Va for East Carolina against Virginia Tech.  I’m sure the environment will be electric and I’m already trying to find a bookie with the line because the Hokies are going to layeth the Smack Down!

Kid ‘n Play in the LPGA

Alexis Thompson12 year old Alexis Thompson will participate tomorrow in the kickoff to tomorrow’s LPGA US Open at Pine Needles. Alexis is a seventh grader who broke the previous record by 7 months and 20 days of being the youngest girl to play in the LPGA US Open set by Morgan Pressel. Alexis seems very level headed since her main goal coming into the tournament is to just make the cut.  My biggest concern is there aren’t any ice cream trucks driving by while Alexis is on the course or the rythmic music along with the scent of a Nutty Buddy will surely throw off her game.

Over the Hill Gang

Over the Hill
There is going to be seven starting pitchers today in the Major Leagues over the age of 40. This will break the MLB record set just last week when there were six starters over 40 taking the mound in the same day. Roger Clemens, John Smoltz, Greg Maddux, Jamie Moyer, Kenny Rogers, Tom Glavine, and Woody Williams all get the starting nod today for their respective team. Each of these guys are role models for all up and coming professional baseball players.

Argentine Soccer Riot Video Clip

I know I’m a day late on this, but I had to post it anyway. This riot ended with 78 arrests, 14 people injured and one death. Is there really any need to get this riled up for a sporting event? Check out the soccer riot video clip below.
