* The fires in California have calmed some so the Texans and Chargers will play in San Diego. I hope this is a sign of good things to come for the poor people in San Diego County who have been devastated by the wild fires.

* Vinny Testaverde will start again this weekend for the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers face a tough Colts defense in Indy this Sunday so I hope they protect him well. I truly would rather have Vinny starting than David Carr based on his play so far this year so GO VINNY and maybe the Panthers can shock the NFL this weekend.

* ESPN/USA Today released their preseason college basketball poll today and Carolina is numero uno, UCLA #2, Memphis #3, Kansas #4 and Georgetown #5. I don’t agree with Carolina at the top although it’s the cool pick right now and Georgetown without Jeff Green is not quite a top five team.

* Matt Ryan pulled one out of his A$$ last night and that back door in the final two minutes killed my wager. I know Matt Ryan will more than likely be the first quarterback drafted in the upcoming NFL draft, but he should not be discussed in the Heisman talk. His team is a paper tiger and Tim Tebow and Andre Woodson are way more important to their teams.

* The thug who shot and hurt five Duquesne University basketball players last year after a school dance pleaded guilty today and will get up to 40 years in prison. I think they should give the guy life for his blatant attack, but I guess it’s just because I have no patience for these antics.

College Basketball Preseason Poll by SportsUnderground.com

It’s under two weeks until the college basketball season kicks off which means we need to talk some hoops. I’m not sure about you, but I can’t wait for Memphis vs Tennessee-Martin (I wonder what the line will be in this gam?) and Maine vs Richmond on November 5th. Here is our preseason Top 5 college basketball poll and if you have feedback don’t forget to register and tell us what you think!

1 – UCLA - The Bruins have made the Final Four the last two years and this year should be no different with all the fire power they bring back. UCLA returns Darren Collison, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, Josh Shipp, Michael Roll, Alfred Aboya and Lorenzo Mata-Real. They also welcome Parade, Gatorade, McDonald’s, you f##in name it high school player of the year Kevin Love. Look for Ben Howland to lead this extremely talented team to the promise land even without the leading scorer from the last two years Aaron Afflalo.

2 – UNC – Roy Williams lost Brandan Wright to the NBA lottery last year, but this team has boat loads of talent coming back. Tyler Hansbrough, Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington are the three main guns with Hansbrough up for a national player of the year award. The Heels will win the ACC this year if role players like Marcus Ginyard and Danny Green step up their games up in conjunction with a solid contribution from freshman star William Graves. ACC should be in the bag and a Final Four is very possible for the boys in baby blue.

3 – Kansas – Rock Chalk Jayhawk will be ring loud and clear this year in Lawrence, Kansas with all-everything Brandon Rush leading the way. Mario Chalmers, Russell Robinson and Sasha Kaun are the other returning starters from last year with only Julius Wright jumping to the big pond from an Elite Eight team just last year. Bill Self also has new addition 6-11 center Cole Adrich who should provide some help down low. If Rush stays focused the ceiling is the limit for this team.

4 – Memphis – John Calipari has decided for now Memphis is home and he has turned this University into a national college basketball powerhouse. They return 5 of their top 6 players from last year’s squad and the Tigers have made the Elite Eight in back-to-back seasons. Don’t forget Memphis has the best point guard recruit in the nation Derrick Rose along with another star freshman in Justin Robinson. The schedule is in their favor due to home or neutral court games against Tennessee, Georgetown, Arizona, Gonzaga and Southern California with no road games harder than UAB. Look out!

5 – Louisville
– We are leaving Georgetown out of our top five simply for the fact Jeff Green is gone and that means Lousiville will win the Big East. The Cardinals return 7 of their top 8 and are lead by one of the best coaches in the land in Rick Pitino. Terrence Williams, Edgar Sosa, David Padgett, Juan Palacios, and Derrick Caracter are the big guns and I’m sure they want to avenge their 1 point loss in the round of 32 last year against Texas A&M.

Horrific Fall by Candice Michelle of the WWE

The WWE has been in the news consistently over the last few months due to the Chris Benoit double-murder and rampant steroid use. One of the other big problems for the multi-million dollar industry has been asking their wresters to perform stunts they might not be trained to pull off properly. This happened again this past Monday night on RAW when Candice Michelle had a terrible fall from the top rope in a match. Check out the video clip below for yourself.

World Series Game One Bet

Josh Beckett

You don’t bet against Josh Beckett in the playoffs and especially not in the World Series. I know the Rockies have won 100 games in a row, but take the Sox and -1.5.

Overall Record:

NFL 32-16-3
College Football: 23-25
MLB 6-0
College Basketball 48-37-2
NBA 6-4

Papelbon Can’t Dance

Check out the video clip below to see Papelbon do his best Riverdance impersonation. I don’t think we will ever see the Sox stud reliever on Dancing with the Stars based on this celebration dance from last night.

Rocks vs Sox

World Series 2007

The Boston Red Sox capped off their ALCS comeback last night with a 11-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians. The Sox were down 3 games to 1, but then outscored the Indians 30-5 in the final three games to win the pennant. Sabbathia and Carmona were 0-3 in this series and this was ultimately the downfall for the Tribe. I know MLB is happy the Sox made the World Series and I think this has the makings of a good series. The blazing hot Rockies will have cooled off from their 8 day rest when the Series starts this Wednesday, but they have to be competitive. I don’t see them winning Game 1 against Beckett, but just don’t get blown out so your confidence isn’t shaken. Make sure you check back with us Wednesday for our MLB Bet of the Day. ;-)

NFL Bet of the Day

The Jags are a good team with a solid defense, but that won’t matter this evening. The Colts have revenge on their mind from the 17-44 blowout Jax handed them last December. Indy covers -3!

Overall Record:

NFL 31-16-3
College Football: 23-25
MLB 6-0
College Basketball 48-37-2
NBA 6-4

* South Florida goes down and the BCS takes a huge sigh of relief. They did not want a nationally unknown Big East team in the BCS Championship game. They would rather have the Florida Gators with two losses in the big game and oddly enough that is not out of the realm of possibility.

* Tank Johnson has returned to the practice field. The ex-Bear now turned Cowboy can’t play until November 11th so I’m sure he will cap someone before he actually plays again on a Sunday.

* Mark Sanchez is starting again this weekend for USC at quarterback. Is John David Booty’s finger still hurt or has USC decided his game is just booty?

* Torre’s press conference has come and gone. How long till the Yankees sign Mattingly now that this is out of the way?
Say what you want, but George is in love with Mattingly and he is still calling the shots.

* Things don’t get any easier for the mightly LSU after last week’s heart breaking three overtime loss to the Kentucky Wildcats. The Auburn Tigers are coming to town and will give them a run for their money for sure. Look for the score to be low and LSU to slip by for the win late in the game.
