Ivanovic Pushed to the Limit

Ana Ivanovic

Number one seed Ana Ivanovic had to scratch and claw her way to a second-round victory today at Wimbledon over Nathalie Dechy. Ana had to overcome two match points in the second-round and a tough third-round in order to win the match 6-7, 7-6, 10-8. Congrats Ana! 🙂 SportsUnderground.com loves ya!

Possible New Trend That Could Hurt NCAA Basketball

Brandon Jennings

Brandon Jennings is a 6’2 point guard who recently graduated from basketball powerhouse Oak Hill Academy where he broke the school scoring record. If Jennings had his way he would be in the NBA Draft this coming Thursday if not for the infamous ‘one and done’ rule which was put in a place by the NBA a couple of years ago. The rule requires you must be 19 before July 1st each year to enter the draft. Obviously, Jennings is a highly sought recruit that the Arizona Wildcats is hoping and praying will come to their university to play ball, but Jennings is currently having issues scoring well on the SAT so he might not be able to get into Zona. Due to this issue Jennings has kicked around the idea of going to play overseas where not only could he play against solid competition, but he could also get paid. Brilliant! How come it has taken someone this long to figure out this solution rather than being forced to attend college when they don’t want to do so? If this trend begins to become popular, which I don’t see how it will not, then the NCAA will further suffer because these stars won’t even play for one year.

Candace Parker Dunks

Rookie Candace Parker of the Los Angeles Sparks became only the second player ever to dunk in an WNBA game. Oddly enough the only other player to dunk is her teammate Lisa Leslie. Check out this video clip of Parker dunking.

Fishing Frenzy

Chops, Tad, Jeff - fishing at Nags Head

Some of my friends went fishing this past weekend at the Outer Banks and needless to say by this picture they were very successful. Check out the size of that Bull Dolphin…DAMN! Congrats to Tad, Eric, Jeff and Chops for pulling in that many fish and I can’t wait to try some of the goods. 🙂

What is ESPN Without Barry Melrose?

Barry Melrose

This is a question that will be answered when we enter the fall of 2008. Barry “Metrosexual Mullet” Melrose has been hired as the new head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning so he will no longer be in studio with ESPN. Melrose has been ESPN’s hockey analyst for over 12 years and in my opinion is one of the most well known ESPN heads even if you don’t like hockey. Melrose did have success while coaching in the early 90’s with the Los Angeles Kings. He went to the Stanley Cup Finals in his first season with LA, but only coached three years total for the Kings. Anyone want to bet Brett Hull will take over for Melrose at ESPN?
