NBA Bet of the Day – May 26th, 2009

In my eyes if the Cavs don’t pull out game 4 tonight in Orlando then you can chalk this series up. In the last game all the Cavaliers stood around and watched Lebron play basketball which was the biggest mistake they could make. The Cavs do have talent and must come into tonight’s game with a gameplan to get others involved early in the game. I think Mike Brown addresses this issue and the Cavs cover.

Cavaliers +1

Shockey Parties Like a Rock Star

New Orleans tight end Jeremy Shockey was rushed to a hospital today in Vegas, but the word on the streets is that Shockey is going to be fine. Shockey was found unconscious at around 2 p.m. at the Hard Rock Hotel and taken to a nearby hospital. Shockey was partying at the standard Sunday pool party called Rehab and the Hard Rock Hotel when he became unconscious due to “dehydration.” By the sounds of this story it sounds like Shockey might want to attend alcohol rehab before football season comes back around.

Happy Memorial Day

The unofficial beginning of summer has arrived and that means barbeques, trips to the beach, nights on the deck and all the other fun things we like to do during the warm months. Please take a few minutes to give thanks to all of the past and present people who have served in the armed forces. Thank you for keeping our country safe.

The Nuggets for all intent and purpose controlled Game 1 in LA , but let things slip away at the very end. I’m taking the Nuggets tonight because I think it will either be very close again or they will steal one from the Lakers tonight on the road.

Nuggets +5.5

Briny Baird Cares

P.F Changs had a very interesting promotion for the San Diego Navy/Marine Corps Relief Society yesterday across from Petco Park where the San Diego Padres play baseball. Briny had 10 shots to hit the center of the bullseye in Petco Park from the top of a building across the street and he would win everyone in America a free lettuce wrap. The lettuce wrap is cool, but more importantly the promotion generated $25,000 for the charity so all in all it was a job well done for Briny Baird.

MLB Bets of the Day – May 20th, 2009

I like Ervin Santana tonight at the healm for the Angels so I will take them even though they are on the road. The Dodgers are 16-3 at home so far this year so I will take them for that reason only.

LA Angels -120
Dodgers -130

Blake Griffin Is Screwed

Last night the Los Angeles Clippers won the 2009 NBA Draft Lottery which means another poor soul will get lost in the abyss that is the LA Clippers. Does anyone remember Michael Olowakandi as the number one pick in 1998? How about some of their other first-round picks which include Darius Miles, Melvin Ely, Brian Skinner, Maurice Taylor, Lorenzen Wright, Greg Minor, Terry Dehere, Randy Woods, Elmore Spencer and Loy Vaught. YUCK!!! The Clippers are playing it cool stating they will explore all options which could mean they will draft someone random like Tyler Hansbrough with the first pick, but all signs point to Blake Griffin.

Sorry Blake…Sorry!

NBA Bet of the Day – May 19, 2009

Everything tells me I should take the Nuggets due to their performance so far in this year’s playoffs. Chauncey Billups and Carmelo Anthony seem very focused on making the NBA Finals, but I don’t think they get the Game 1 tonight in LA. The Lakers have owned the Nuggets in recent matchups and I also think the Lakers will be much more focused tonight than they were in the Rockets series. Take the Lakers.

Lakers -6.5

NBA Draft Lottery Tonight

Tonight is the NBA Draft Lottery which means the worst fourteen teams in the NBA all have their fingers crossed right now with hopes of landing the number one selection. Sacramento has the best mathematical chance at 25% with Washington and the Clippers in second and third at 17%. Oklahoma City has almost a 12% chance, Minnesota and Memphis at 7%, Golden State almost 5%, the Knicks at 2.8%, Toronto 1.7%, Milwaukee 1% and finally New Jersey, Charlotte, Indiana and Phoenix all under 1%. In recent years the percentages haven’t come to fruition though because the team with the worst record has only won the lottery twice in the last fifteen years. Last year is a great example with the Bulls winning the lottery when they only had a 1.7% chance of hitting. I have a strong feeling Oklahoma City wins this year’s lottery which would allow them to draft Oklahoma native Blake Griffin with the first pick. The Lottery is only a few hours away so we won’t have to wait much longer to find out who hits the jackpot.

John Wall to Kentucky

After weeks and weeks of speculation the word is the number one point guard coming out of high school will play for the Kentucky Wildcats next year. Before Calipari left Memphis for Kentucky it was pretty clear Wall was headed to Memphis, but once Calipari bolted it left Wall reconsidering his options. Wall was courted by Duke, Florida and Miami in a big way along with Memphis and Kentucky, but in the end Wall went with his initial notion of wanting to play for Calipari. This latest signing for the Kentucky Wildcats is another huge notch in the belt for the program. Less than two weeks ago stud forward Patrick Patterson pulled his name out of the of the NBA draft after averaging almost 18 points a game last year as a Sophomore. Throw in the signing of highly touted newcomers like Daniel Orton, Darnell Dodson and DeMarcus Cousins and you immediately have a team that could contend for a National Championship this coming season. Finally, let’s not forget there is a possibility that scoring machine Jodie Meeks could return to the program as well. Meeks averaged over 27 points a game last year and is currently determining if he can be a first round pick this year or if he should return to college. I got a strong feeling Meeks is going to return to Kentucky due to the potential the team has to win a title. We will find out very soon if Meeks will be back and if he returns I think the Wildcats are immediately the best team in the country. I’m sure Michigan State, Kansas, Duke and other solid programs will feel differently, but Kentucky could be back and stronger than ever folks.
