Phelps Flustered

Michael Phelps lost his first major competition in four years today in the 200-meter freestyle at the World Swimming Championships in Rome. German Paul Biedermann won the event by over a second against Phelps and most feel it is mostly due to Biedermann’s Arena X-Glide suit. The new polyurethane-based Jaked and Arena suits will be banned starting next year and it seems Phelps is taking some comfort in the fact they will no longer be allowed in 2010. After the race today Phelps stated, “I will say that next year swimming will be swimming again. You’re going to have to do all the work and there’s not going to be a suit that does it for you.” I will smoke a bowl…err…drink a beer to that Michael!
