QB Controversy Brewing in Philly

I bet if Kevin Kolb had things to do over he would love to start off his era in Philly in better fashion than what transpired yesterday. Kolb looked stiff and seemed to tip off his reads which almost led to him throwing three different interceptions. Kolb was 5-10 for 24 yards and was sacked twice in a first half where the Eagles only garnered three first downs and a total of three points. At half time it was determined Kolb had a concussion so head coach Andy Reid turned to Michael Vick to lead the Eagles in the second half. All Vick did was rush for 103 yards, pass for 175 and he threw a touchdown pass to Jeremy Maclin. Kolb won’t practice until Friday at the earliest and he must pass a specific evaluation exam before he can be cleared to play. With all of this going on it seems Vick will get most of the snaps this week in practice which would make one think he will be the starter this weekend against Detroit. If Vick is able to perform up to the caliber he displayed yesterday is there any way Reid and the Eagles can then go back to Kolb?

R U Ready for Some NFL?

Here are the unconventional picks for Week 1 in the NFL.

How many of you are in a suicide pool and looking for answers? Well, I totally laid out in my ‘Big $’ pool and chose New Orleans so I’m on to week two. I couldn’t play just one entry though so my second one is the Jacksonville Jaguars.

While we are on the subject take Jax -3 over Tim Tebow, errr I mean Denver because they have no defense and no running backs. The Jags are loaded with vets including a top 3 pick in fantasy player in MJD. Garrard is a a vet and the WR core is not too bad. Can you name the QB, RB, WR tandem in Denver? Exactly so Jville rolls.

Prediction Jacksonville -3

Detroit is at the Bears. Jay Cutler still hasn’t got it and Matt Stafford has a top 3 WR in Calvin Johnson along with Jahvid Best as a RB. Take the 6.5 and run to the bank!

Prediction Lions +6.5

The Niners are going to the playoffs this year so put the mortgage on SF as they roll.

Prediction SF -4

College Football Bets of the Day – September 11th, 2010

What a glorious day of college football we have on the slate today. Florida State versus Oklahoma, Ohio State versus Miami, Michigan versus Notre Dame, Penn State versus Alabama and so many others. Enjoy and good luck!

Michigan +4
Stanford -6
Ohio State -9

Overall Record:

College Football 6-2 (2010) 147-117-1 (overall)
MLB 62-43 (2010) 152-112-5
NFL 35-20 (2009-10) 138-92-5 (overall)
College Basketball 60-46-3 (2009-10) 257-195-9 (overall)
NHL 0-2 (2010) 1-4 (overall)
NBA 21-17 (2010) 65-53 (overall)

Favre and Receivers Need Work

The main take away from the Vikings 14-9 loss to the Saints last night is Favre and his gaggle of receivers need some polishing. Favre’s failure to connect with his two primary receivers Bernard Berrian and Percy Harvin is the reason they lost the matchup. Favre depended heavily on Sidney Rice last year, but he is injured and Berrian catching one pass for 3 yards and Harvin catching one for 12 yards won’t get it done. Favre was 4-12 on all passes to wide receivers and if it wasn’t for Shiancoe’s catches in the first half and some dump down passes to the backs it would have been a very poor statistical outing for Brett. I believe with some more practice Favre and gang (watch out for Greg Camarillo) will find a groove, but they will need to soon because the schedule is tough.

Cheaterpari at it Again

Speculation is swirling around another Kentucky basketball recruit which isn’t surprising when you consider who is at the helm. Highly touted center Enes Kanter will be receiving a call from the NCAA in the coming days after reports surfaced that he had been paid thousands of dollars from a professional Turkish basketball team. The GM for the team allegedly provided housing to Kanter’s family for more than three years and paid Kanter $6,500 a month in his final season with the team. If these reports are true there is no way 6-11 Kanter will ever play ball for the Wildcats which would be a blow to the 2010-11 squad. Since this has broke before the season has started Calipari will dodge another bullet, but sooner or later he is going to get caught.
