Remember when Heavyweight Boxing was Cool?

Did anyone know there was a heavyweight boxing title fight yesterday? Wladamir Klitschko is now the undisputed heavyweight champion after a win over WBA belt holder David Haye. It was roughly 10 years ago when we were buying pay-per-view bouts with Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis, but now there is almost no interest in the sport. Could it be due to what the UFC has become or is it more related to the lack of characters from previous years. Either way the sport is pretty much dead and it might not ever be revived.

Make Way for Jenn Brown

Fedor Emelianenko makes his American debut tomorrow night during the big Strikeforce MMA CBS event in Chicago. Many feel Emelianeko is the best mixed martial arts fighter in the world so this should be a big deal for CBS and Strikeforce, right? It very well may be, but the bigger deal in our mind is the host of the show tomorrow evening on CBS. Her name is Jenn Brown and she is SMOKING!!! If you aren’t familiar with Jenn then no need to worry. We have included a few pictures for you below to become more acquainted.

Dancing with the Stars Feeling Sporty

ABC’s television show sensation “Dancing with the Stars” has released their list of contestants for this year’s show and there seems to be even more athletes than normal this time around. Michael Irvin is the most famous of the athletes and looks to fall in the foot steps of former Cowboy teammate Emmitt Smith who won the show a couple of years back. Other athletes that will compete on the show include Louie Vito a professional snowboarder, former UFC champ Chuck Liddell and another Olympic star in swimmer Natalie Coughlin. Other contestants include singer Aaron Carter, actor Mark Dacascos, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, singer Macy Gray, actor Ashley Hamilton, actress Melissa Joan Hart, model Kathy Ireland, actress Debi Mazar, singer Mya, reality star Kelly Osbourne and singer Donnie Osmond. This is all good and well, but in the end I didn’t plan on watching the show until I also heard our friend Joanna Krupa will also be on the show. I wonder if she will end up blessing out her partner on “Dancing with the Stars” like she previously did to Terrell Owens on “The Superstars”?

Carano versus Cyborg

A couple of months ago we informed you about Gina Carano signing with Strikeforce. The signing set up the most anticipated female fight ever between Carano and Cris “Cyborg” Santos. Cyborg a Muay Thai striker is 7-1 with five wins by technical knockout. Carano is 7-0 and is also a Muai Thay fighter and has the looks that can kill. Carano will have her hands filled with Cyborg because her power is next to none and is superior to Carano in respect to her ground game. Carano is going to have to really bring it to get past Cyborg this Saturday night on Showtime, but we believe.

Shaq Serious About MMA?

It seems there might be some merit to the rumors that Shaquille O’Neal wants to take on Korean MMA fighter Hong-Man Choi based on this video of Shaq training. Choi is the 7-foot-2, 330-pound beast that beat the ever living will out of Jose Canseco a few weeks back. I can imagine the Suns would love for O’Neal to step in the ring since I’m sure it is a violation of his contract and we all know Phoenix is doing anything they can to unload his huuuuggggeee contract.

Gina Carano Is Back

Former EliteXC fighter Gina Carano has announced her signing with the MMA company Strikeforce. Carano is slated to take on Cris Cyborg August 15th on Showtime. This sets up the most anticipated women’s fight ever considering the Carano-Cyborg fight has been talked about since the two became prominent in the EliteXC’s women’s division during 2008. Carano is 7-0 and Cyborg is 7-1 and both are primarily standup fighters so it promises to be an action-packed bout. I have already added this fight to my calendar because I don’t want to miss Carano in action.

Kimbo Slice Is Back

Fallen mixed martial arts star Kimbo Slice has been selected as one of the upcoming contestants for the UFC backed TV show The Ultimate Fighter. Kimbo became known as the bodyguard of the notorious Bang Brothers and then rose to a true internet stardom because of his brutal street fights served up on You Tube. Slice even went on to fight a couple of MMA matches for the now defunct Elite XC MMA Organization and it is widely known the reason Elite XC went down was due to Kimbo falling to a back-up fighter during the organization’s second TV show on CBS. This is probably Kimbo’s last big chance so he better take advantage of working with some of MMA’s best on The Ultimate Fighter.

UFC Fight Goes Way Wrong

Check out this video clip from a recent UFC fight and watch Corey Hill’s leg snap like a twig!

Kimbo Slice Victorious

YouTube phenom Kimbo Slice reigned victorious Saturday evening in the main event of the EliteXC exhibition on CBS. Kimbo defeated James Thompson and you can see the final round in the video clip below if you missed it. I highly recommend you check out the video if you haven’t seen it yet because the ending is quite the eye opener. Gina Carano was also victorious and it’s always a pleasure to watch her go at it. Overall, I thought the EliteXC event was put together pretty well and I think CBS might have a hit on their hands.

Damn Gina!

Gina Carano

Gina Carano is new on the scene in mixed martial arts fighting, but is quickly becoming a phenomenon. She is currently 5-0 and is scheduled to fight against former Hook n Shoot champion Kaitlin Young on the CBS EliteXC debut on May 31st. This is the same show that Kimbo Slice will be fighting in the feature bout. Don’t know about you, but I will be tuning into to watch Gina and you can take that to the bank.
